What can I put in my Gooi bag or bucket?
Fruit and vegetable scraps, coffee grounds and filters, tea bags (paper), eggshells, bread and grains, cooked food (small amounts), paper napkins.
Not accepted: meat, fish, dairy, oily food, or any non-food items.
What cannot go in the compost?
Meat, fish, dairy, oils and fats, bones, pet waste, plastic, glass, or any non-food materials. These items contaminate the compost and cannot be processed at our partner facility.
Where does the compost end up?
Your food scraps are delivered to our composting partner Soil for Life, where they're transformed into nutrient-rich compost that feeds gardens and farms around Cape Town.

How much does the service cost?
Standard — up to two 5L bags per week:
- 1 month — R260/month
- 3 months — R220/month (R660 total)
- 6 months — R180/month (R1 080 total)
XL — one 25L bucket per week:
- 1 month — R300/month
- 3 months — R270/month (R810 total)
- 6 months — R240/month (R1 440 total)
Do you collect from businesses?
Yes. We offer commercial collection for restaurants, cafés, offices, and other businesses. Pricing is volume-based (45L buckets) with flexible contract lengths of 3, 6, or 12 months.

How it works
Which suburbs does Gooi service?
We collect across Cape Town's southern suburbs, the Atlantic Seaboard, False Bay, and the City Bowl — including Claremont, Sea Point, Muizenberg, Observatory, and many more.

What day will my scraps be collected?
Collection day is determined by your suburb. Southern suburbs and False Bay are on Tuesdays, the Atlantic Seaboard and Constantia on Wednesdays, and the City Bowl on Thursdays. Your confirmed day is shown in your account after sign-up.
What time will Alfred arrive?
Routes run from roughly 8am to 5pm. Traffic and Alfred's legendary chats with customers mean we can't give a precise time — leave your scraps out early and we'll swing by!
How do I prepare my scraps for collection?
Standard: You'll receive two compostable 5L bags each collection. Fill them and leave them at your gate or doorstep on your collection day.
XL: You get a 25L bucket — leave it out on collection day and we'll swap it for a clean one.
Can I skip a week or pause my subscription?
Yes to both. Log in to skip any upcoming collection or set holiday dates in advance. You can also pause your subscription from your account page — paused months don't count toward your subscription duration.

Do you have drop-off sites?
Yes. If weekly doorstep collection doesn't suit you, you can drop your scraps at one of our partner farms and community drop-off locations around Cape Town.
